WV ATV LAWS – KNOW BEFORE YOU GO!

Every day we have questions about WV ATV Laws and “ATV Friendly” towns.  Now, depending on who you ask you may get a different answer but here’s the official scoop.

No:

Riding on interstate highways.

Riding on any road with a center line EXCEPT to cross.

Riding while intoxicated.

Passengers unless your ride was made for more than one .

Yes:

You can ride on the shoulder of any non divided road, street or highway to get from trail to trail/field or area of operation less than 10 miles away (under 25mph).

You must wear a helmet if you are under age 18.

You are required to have a spark arrester and muffler; after dark headlights and taillights are required.

When crossing any roadway, yield to other traffic, cross at a 90 degree angle, come to a complete stop before entering the roadway or in any center divider areas and use your headlights/taillights if equipped.

Those are the basics.  Keep in mind any city or municipality can adopt their own rules or designate specific streets or areas as off limits.  If in doubt, ask.
