Motocross Track at Burning Rock Outdoor Adventure Park
One of our most exciting additions to the park came in June 2013 in the form of a new Motocross track. As with most of our updates and changes, we wanted to make sure it was going to be something worth coming to again and again. We enlisted the help of professional motocross designer and builder MX Track Builders (www.mxtrackbuilders.com) to help us meet this end. We asked them to build us two motocross tracks: a competition level track and a track specific for kids and small bikes. Boy, did they deliver. Shortly after construction we were lucky enough to have some of the folks from RacerX come out and ride, here is their take on us (Racer X).
The competition level track is in the very upper end of the valley where the trailhead is located. It is 1 ¼ miles long and boasts serious elevation changes. A 90 ft triple (it can be had as a double and a rhythm roller if you like), a whoops section, step ups, and tabletops galore, just to name a few. While the mini-moto, as we call it, has many of the same features in a much smaller package. This kid-friendly track lies in between the main track and the parking area. The mini-moto is also the closest to the parking area and central activities area so Mom and Dad can have a good place to hang out while the kids wear out the track – and they do wear it out. Google Maps has recently updated and you can see the tracks clearly, check it out!
Anyone familiar with Southern West Virginia knows that we have some very rocky terrain and soil to deal with and Burning Rock is no exception to that. In order to construct the track we brought in almost 10,000 cubic yards of dirt. To put that in perspective, a typical dump truck holds somewhere around 15 cubic yards. Since building the track we’ve continued to add clean dirt and mulch to create a surface that is fun to ride. The track surface has come a long way but to get it where we ultimately want it to go, we still have lots of work to do. This is not an overnight process but you can rest assured we are focused on getting it there.
The track hours of operation will vary by season and other events. The best way to get up to date information about track conditions is to check facebook and google+ pages. You’ll also want to keep an eye out for our Event and Race schedule. For track pricing, check out our pricing page.
